The Welcome Table New Orleans is a citywide initiative of Mayor Mitch Landrieu’s office focused on race, reconciliation and community.
“Love is the only force
capable of transforming an enemy
into a friend.”
-Martin Luther King Jr.
Welcome Table Groups (diverse groups of no more than 25 people) came together to work through a facilitated process of discussion, relationship building and action. By meeting in safe, civil, secure, structured and facilitated spaces, Welcome Table Groups work through each phase to build greater understanding of each other and critical issues facing our city.
In 2014, diverse residents from across the city began meeting in 8 welcome table new Orleans circles: Algiers, Carrollton, Central City, Mid-City, New Orleans East, St. Roch, Mother’s Circle and the Business and Civic Leader’s Circle. Residents participate in a facilitated process of relationship building, tackling the issue of race and creating reconciliation projects.
